Matthew 22:37-38. Of all the things Jesus said while walking among us, what He said in these verses is I believe, the most important. “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Without the first, the second is not possible. In fact nothing else Jesus taught is possible without loving God. Only then are we even capable of truly loving anyone else, or obeying His commandments.

You may be wondering if you love God enough. For sure it is hard to love someone we have never seen and have only been told about, but that is why the Father sent the Holy Spirit. Once we repent of our sin and receive Jesus as our Lord and savior, the Bible says that the Father will give us the Holy Spirit. John 14:26, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”

When we sit down to read the Word, opening our hearts to the Lord through the Holy Spirit, He helps us to understand the heart and the mind of God; and more so every time we spend time with Him. The more we know Him, the more we love Him. We cannot help but love Him when we know Him, because He is altogether lovely!

His love in us makes us aware that those around us are made in His very image. People really are awesome. God has great love for mankind. He wishes that all would be saved. Though there may be those who refuse Him, God has no pleasure in this. He desires that all would turn from sin and be saved through the precious Blood of Jesus. When we are saved and receive the Holy Spirit, He gives us new hearts that want to see the lost saved.

When we love Him, the Word says we will keep His commandments. We know there is grace for times we fail, but because we love God, we never want to hurt Him. We choose to avoid sin and situations that could lead to it, so we don’t break our Father’s heart. Everything hinges on loving Him. He loves us so much He sent His Son to die in our place. He sent us the Holy Spirit to lead us to know Him. He has done everything for us. All that is left is for us to love Him. 2 Corinthians 3:18,“But we all , with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” When we love Him with all our heart, soul, and mind, we will reflect His glory!
