I remember in 1968 when I was just a teenager, everyone was so excited about Jerusalem being returned to the control of Israel. It was popular for Christians to say to each other, “Here, there, or in the air,” as they parted company. This of course referred to the rapture of the Christians. But in those days, I looked around and I said to myself, “no, it’s just not time yet”.
The reason I didn’t believe it was time was that things were still too normal. Oh sure, there were some earthquakes, I was even in a big one, but things were over all very normal. No one was being persecuted, in those days for being a Christian, (in the US at least). In fact you were more likely to be frowned on for not going to church in those days. No, I thought, things just aren’t ripe yet. Good was still good and evil was still evil.
Many years have gone by, obviously, and things have changed in so many ways. Being a Christian is no longer popular. It is rather considered something you should do at home. The Biblical view of marriage is no longer accepted. The Biblical view of male and female is not accepted either. Children are no longer respectful of their parents. The family unit is pretty much destroyed. Abortion is considered health care instead of the ending of an innocent life. Good is now considered evil and evil is called good. You are narrow minded or evil if you believe ending an innocent life is wrong. Transgender people are reading books to little children in libraries and teaching them obscene body movements while their parents laugh. This is considered good, and to disagree is considered evil. How far society has fallen!
There have been a number of meteors that have hit the earth, with the threat of more to come. The ice at the poles is reported to be melting, whether it is or not, God knows. There have been mass animal and fish die offs all around the earth. All are unexplained. There certainly are wars and rumors of wars. Russia, China, North Korea, and the Middle East is always on fire. Christians are being persecuted and martyred all around the world.
The weather has gone haywire with fires burning up California and Australia. There have been huge tidal waves, tornadoes, and unbelievable sinkholes. Floods and famines have ravaged different countries and a massive swarm of locusts of Biblical proportions threatens to bring famine to Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
We have faced SARS, MERS, Ebola, and now COVID-19. All of these things have come pretty much one after another or you might say even at the same time with all the other tragedies and social changes. All this has increased more and more and intensified like the labor pains of an expectant mother. This is just as the Bible predicted.
How close are we? I don’t know, but I know this, when someone says they believe we are living in the last days, now I agree. The stage is set. This is the time to continue to look up, to have your heart right with Father God, to be washed in the Blood of the Lamb, but also to continue to to be occupied until He comes. Do the work He has given us to do.
However long it is, it won’t be very long, because all the signs are visible. The Word says it will be like the days of Noah. I believe that pretty well describes today. In Noah’s day the world was so wicked, that God was sorry He had created man and would have destroyed them all, but Noah found grace. Thanks to the Lord Jesus, we too can find grace by turning to Him.
We should be like the wise virgins who had oil in their vessels and were ready for the midnight cry! “Behold the Bridegroom comes!” What a glorious day that will be! Eternity with Him will be unspeakably marvelous! Until He comes fear not, let Him find us watching, praying, and spreading the Word about His coming. However long it is, it is closer than ever!
