I recently heard of a pastor who was teaching those in his church that it was not necessary for Jesus to die for our sins.  To hear that broke my heart, because I know from many years in the Word, that it also breaks the Father’s heart.  Then I found out that much more error than that is being taught. My heart sank.

We are warned in 2Thessalonians 2:3 that before the Lord returns, apostasy (falling away) will occur. We are warned not to be deceived.  2Peter 1:21 tells us that,“No prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”  The Bible is the Word of God. He breathed His Word out through men.

John 1:1 tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.  2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.  4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”  God does not change.

This progressive Christian movement, is not progressive, nor Christian.  From the beginning man fell into sin and received a death sentence from God.  The only way out was for God to send His son in the likeness of man yet without sin, and for Him to willingly die for our sin.  There was no other way for our  redemption.  From the first book to the last, the Bible is a beautiful story of the plan of God for our redemption, carried out by Christ.  To say this was unnecessary or anything but beautiful, is… well, it is to deny our only means of salvation.

When Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane, He prayed saying,”My Father if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will , but as Thou Wilt.” In Matthew 26:39b, God did not consider the death of Jesus optional.  And His resurrection is undeniable.  If they could have found His body, the whole world would know it.  Many saw Him for many days after His resurrection, and they saw Him ascend into heaven.

It would be with great fear, that I would change the Word of God, and even greater fear to teach others so.  God’s plan of redemption through the precious Blood of Jesus is portrayed from the beginning to the end of the Bible and will be celebrated for all eternity as we shout, “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain for us.”  It is a marvelous thing, and we are not  to lay it aside because it is not politically correct.

I pray God will protect His children from wolves in sheep’s clothing, who are pretending to lead the flock, but have other motives, known or or unknown to them.  I pray for these leaders who have fallen away from the truth, because  broad is the way that leads to destruction.
