The truth is that God is, and has always been speaking.  The trouble is with our hearing.

In the beginning, before Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they walked in the garden with Him and talked with Him.  But once sin entered in, that fellowship was broken.  God told Adam that as a result of their sin they would die.  Then He told them how their lives would be from that point on.  They didn’t physically die at that moment, but the part of man that had fellowship with God no longer operated the same way.  Even the ground was cursed and began to bring forth weeds.  Their bodies began to age, and other signs of encroaching death began to appear.

But God wasn’t willing to give up on mankind.  In fact, He was not surprised by what had happened.  He already had a plan.  Man had to die. That judgement was set, but God’s plan was to send His own Son , in the likeness  of the flesh, but without sin.  Jesus was fully a man, but He was born of a virgin, and his Father was God.  There has never been another man like him.  When He died on the cross, He took upon himself the sins of all of mankind.  At the same time He made his righteousness available to them.  Because He was innocent, death had no power over him.  It could not hold him, and so He rose to life again!

John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”.  In Hebrews 4:12 it says that the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double edged sword, piercing event the point of dividing of soul and spirit, and joints from marrow.  It is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart.”  His word does just that.

Hebrews 8:10-11 says, “I will put my laws in their minds and I will inscribe them on their hearts.  And I will be their God and they will be my people.  And there will be no need at all for each one to teach his countryman or each one to teach his neighbor saying ‘know the Lord’, since they will all know me from the least to the greatest.”

But to know Him, you must receive Him as it says in 1 John 1:9 “But if we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, forgiving us our sins and cleansing us from all unrighteousness.”

Romans 8:9 says, “You , however are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you.  Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person does not belong to Him.”

Once we have confessed ours sinful state and received the forgiveness of Christ, His spirit enters us and we become a new creation. (2 Cor. 5:17)

God speaks through His Word, by His Spirit that dwells in us, and even in the things that He shows us in his creation during our everyday lives.  The truth is He is always speaking, we just have to have our hearts alive to hear him!
