I was thinking today, about why it is that sometimes the people who should love us don’t. Whether it is a parent, or a brother or a sister, sometimes it just happens; and nothing can be more painful…especially to a child. It can have a life long impact.
Pain comes in many forms, and none of them are good. But the pain that particularly breaks my heart is the pain caused by this situation. When a child is young, before they have the ability to understand what is happening, someone who should know better is breaking them down emotionally, Constant belittling and poking fun is so painful to the victim of such abuse.
I had to talk to Father God about this, what else can you do. The first realization that I had, was that God did not plan the situation or cause it to happen. It happened because of wrong choices made by the abuser. The next was that He never leaves a child alone in such a situation, but is always there with them. I mean He is right there beside them.
Bad things happen. That is the world we live in until the Lord returns and changes the way things are, but if we let those bad things push us toward God, we will find Him. After all, He is right there.
Then Father will help us to forgive. It may be that the offender never even realizes or is willing to admit what they have done. They may continue to have the same behavior for a lifetime, but that is not our problem. Our part is to forgive, and forgive again if the offenses continue.
When life events allow you to get away from an abuser, you most likely will find that you have taken them with you in your mind. The thoughts embedded there by them will try to repeat as if the offender is there before you. That is when you have to use the Word of God, after all, it is the sword of the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 10:5 says, “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raises up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” Taking every thought captive means saying no to the thoughts that are not in accordance with Gods word. Philippians 1:6 says, “For I am confident of this one thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
No matter where we find ourselves in this life, there is really only one thing that is important. That thing is to know Him. He said, “ I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you,” John 14:18. That is how we make it through. Though we may never know the love of a sister, brother, mother, or father, in this lifetime, we can know Him. There is no joy like knowing Him. All else pales in comparison.
Lord you are good, and your ways are so much higher than ours. Thank you for being with us.Thank you for drawing our hearts to love you. You are a healing balm on the wounds of life. Thank you Lord Jesus for loving me.
